Lake of the Woods Concert Series

This organization has been active in the City of Kenora ON. for over 45 years.  We are the only organization of its kind in this North West Ontario community. We have used the sanctuary of Knox United Church for the majority of the concerts. Our mandate is to provide a series of quality concerts by professional artists at affordable prices.  The concert group is made up of a cross section of volunteer members from the community. This includes a number of retired as well as employed members; some of the members are also performers.  We have a keen desire to advance, promote and encourage involvement in all forms of the arts in the community. We meet on a regular basis, with the intent of maintaining, and advancing the cultural activities in the city.  The importance of the arts to the economic welfare of the community is very important. We feel that we add, in a positive way, to this part of the community life. The summer Harbour Front concerts series which involves both professional as well as amateur artists. This series is held during the summer months and is a great attraction for locals as well as the many tourists here in the summer.  We assist, and promote many young people with a strong interest in many art forms. Some of these artists have continued to professional careers.  The committee is very actively involved in the community. We feel that we lead by example and are involved in all aspects of the life of our vibrant arts community. Some of the members of this group are performers and are visible within the community, This has a very positive effect. The concert group has been successful in offering this series for a number of years, by offering professional artists in a variety of disciplines. The attendance at performances and the positive response indicates to us that we are offering a worthwhile product. We have a bearing on economic welfare in the community.  We feel that we add, in a positive way, to this part of the community life.  As a result of the concert series we book hotel rooms, arrange for restaurants meals, and other services offered in the city. We involve local merchants in ticket sales and promotions, which in turn will bring more business to them.

The committee is very positive about the benefits the concert series adds to the quality of live here in Kenora and North West Ontario.
