Knox is an Affirming Congregation

Affirming Ministry Mission statement:

At Knox United Church, we celebrate diversity. In God’s world we are diverse in gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, culture, age, physical ability, religious perspective, and economic status. Jesus met people wherever they were in their journey. Relationship changes us.  Knox is an evolving community of faith that seeks to intentionally welcome new perspectives and leadership. We celebrate the richness, change and growth this brings to our journey together.

Everyone in this congregation is welcome to participate in the sacraments, and to be involved in all activities, committees, studies and forms of leadership. Join us on the journey.

Steps on the Journey:

  1. After many learning events and much involvement with Kenora’s LGBT2S community (including “Space” and “PFLAG” and “Kenora Pride”) and many good conversations and presentations, the Affirming committee of Jean Anne Hallas, Tom Hallas, Sarah Pyzer, Doug Schneider, and Thelma Bretel made a recommendation to the Leadership Team to become an affirming church and to continue ever broadening journey of inclusion.  A congregational meeting and vote was held Sunday February 12, 2017 with over 90% voting in favour.
  2. Learning and engagement with the LGBT2S community will continue.
  3. Become a member of Affirm United as a Ministry

  4. Celebrate who we are: Publicize: exterior signs, social media, hold a service of celebration on Pentecost Sunday June 4th, 2017.  And a wonderful and joyous celebration it was with many community members showing their support.
